NEW YORK— Susan Farber Collections, chic handbag designer, is proud to debut limited-edition messenger bags in a variety of sophisticated fabrics to support the Lupus Research Institute (LRI). Systemic lupus erythematosus (S.L.E.), commonly called Lupus, affects as many as 1.5 million people and is still one of the most mysterious diseases in the United States. The disease attacks the body's immune system, and often leads to further illnesses like kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, and potential stroke. Existing medications available to battle Lupus are highly toxic, and debilitating, while no new treatments have been approved for the disease in the last 40 years.

Susan Farber, revered by many of Hollywood’s elite including Sharon Stone, Debra Messing, Rachel Bilson and Jennifer Love Hewitt, became educated about Lupus when her close friend Kelly Stone was diagnosed with the disease and approached her about partnering for charity. Their idea: to create an exclusive design for a handbag collection, the Kelly for Susan Farber, that would bring new awareness to this unfamiliar disease, while preserving Farber’s reputation for designing luxurious and practical handbags for her existing clientele. Currently available through Summer 2007, Susan Farber Collections will donate 50% of the proceeds to benefit LRI. Philanthropy marries design in this exclusive collaboration inspired by friendship.
