the Spirit of Saint Tropez by Henry-Jean Servat. St. Tropez
is merely a village- but it's a village on the Riviera bathed in an iridescent
light full of history, plots and stories. The best stories. A village
that caresses the eye and attracted a host of artists at the turn of the
twentieth century. A village whose heyday came in the middle of the 1950s,
when a young Franco-Russian filmmaker brought cameras and crew to its
sun-dazzled beaches to make his first feature film: And God Created
Woman. The shock wave created by Roger Vadim revealed a resplendent
creature, a legend, a whole world of fashion: Brigitte Bardot,
rocketing to fame in the village she chose as her home, which would bask
in the glory of those years forever. In its pearly haven, artists, film
stars, playboys and top models would spend sun-soaked days and starry
nights in affairs and adventures that have since entered the pages of
history. Divided into eight chapters: Brigitte, The Cinema, The Films,
The Artists, The Playboys, The Beaches, The Villas and The Yachts, In
the Spirit of St. Tropez is illustrated with numerous previously unpublished
photographs. Henry-Jean Servat is a journalist with Paris-Match
and has contributed to many radio and television programmes such as Etoiles
et toiles, Célébrités and Ciel, mon mardi. He has written fifteen
books on subjects such as Brigitte Bardot, Alain Delon and Robert
Hossein, as well as a collection of short stories and several books
on the cinema.
