NEW YORK CITY—Modern art meets guerrilla warfare as the DiVA: Digital and Video Art Fair takes over the Atrium of the Embassy Suites Hotel located at 102 North End Avenue in Battery Park City in New York City from Thursday, 22 February – Saturday, 24 February 2007 to present the work of 30 international galleries. For four days, two floors of the hotel will be under siege with each gallery responsible for transforming their own two-bedroom suite to display the work of the artists they represent. A dynamic mix of street art, gallery exhibitions, lecture series, and film screenings, the DiVA Fair is the first ever art fair in the United States dedicated wholeheartedly to video and digital art. Since the invention of photography, nothing has had a greater impact on artistic practice than the emergence of the personal video camera and, later, digital technology. Now, with the aid of computers, the cameras and video camcorders have become the ultimate tools in creating a dynamic arena for art making, regardless of the final product. With the advent of video and computer technology, artists are no longer restricted by their immediate technical parameters. The DiVa Art Fair takes place in cities across the globe including Cologne, New York, Brussels, Paris, Miami Beach and Taipei. A press preview will take place Thursday, February 22nd at 4:00PM at the Embassy Suites Hotel. To schedule a walkthrough or interview with Director of Exhibitions Thierry Alet, interested media please contact Workhouse Publicity, publicists Lauren Gould or Kara Hughett by telephone 212. 645. 8006 or via email lauren@workhousepr.com or kara@workhousepr.com

DiVA ART FAIR
DiVA is the first art fair dedicated to Video and Digital Art. DiVA first edition was titled "Moving Images" a one night exhibition on November 15th 2003 at the Windsor Hotel in New York. In 2005, DiVA premiered in New York, Brussels, Cologne, and Paris. In 2006, DiVA will premiere in Miami Beach. Because of its focus on Digital & Video Art, DiVA has a unique approach. While geared toward the future to bring the next art here, DiVA acknowledges the past through the artists and works that have pioneered this great art form. Since its first edition, DiVA has paid tribute to Nam June Paik, Bruce Nauman, Jonas Mekas and Andy Warhol. Catalogues are also designed to put artists first. Each artist is given 2 pages, listed by name in the catalogue. The gallery information, rather than occupying a large portion of the design as in most exhibition catalogues, in the DiVA catalogue takes a smaller space, about 1/5 of a page per gallery.  This layout emphasizes the artist above all. DiVA is the first art fair to offer to view actual video online and is now the only art far to offer the public an opportunity to purchase art work online. DiVA is produced by «Frère Independent» For more information please visit http://www.divafair.com
