ASSOULINE IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE HÔTEL PLAZA ATHÉNÉE
USA - Assouline Publishing, the illustrated book publishing house behind the stories of some of the most legendary, luxurious and romantic hotels and travel spots in titles as Francisca Mattéoli's Island Hotel Stories, Francois Simon's Paris Hotel Stories, Francisca Mattéoli's Hotel Stories: Legendary Hideaways of the World, and Cyrille Boulay's Royal Holidays will release a new title this Fall Hôtel Plaza Athénée by Pascal Payen-Appenzeller. Using previously unpublished documents and interviews with those whose lives have intersected with the hotel, its concierges, managers, and customers, this book recounts the life of a mythical hotel. The Plaza Athénée opened in 1913, on the Avenue Montaigne, soon after the opening of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. As great cuisine became the height of luxury, the hotel rapidly became the unavoidable meeting place of the city's elite. After social changes in 1936, the Plaza Athénée was transformed into a unique model of collaboration between the staff and the managers. Located within one of Paris' most prestigious governmental districts, the Élysée, the hotel has remained, throughout the 20th century, at the center of artistic and fashionable Parisian life. This stately volume opens the doors of the Plaza Athénée, and tells us about its remarkable success and beauty.
