PICASSO: THE LAST YEARS
USA - Assouline Publishing, the illustrated book publishing house behind such introspective and artistic titles as Christopher Makos' Andy, Edward Quinn's Picasso: The Objects, and Nathan Keenan's Robert Indiana will release a new title this Fall, Picasso: The Last Years by Mariano Miguel Montanes. In the late sixties, Pablo Picasso was living in Mougins, on the French Riviera, when he asked his friend Mariano Miguel Montanes to help him out as a secretary. Miguel went to live in Cannes, in one of Picasso's houses, becoming the assistant and confidant to the great painter and his wife, Jacqueline. Years later, Miguel's son, Albert, discovered his father's diary from this important period. Thanks to this journal, we are able to enter the day-to-day life of the most important artist in the 20th century. From Picasso's way of living, to his way of working, his friends and habits, the text resuscitates the energy, generosity, and the true originality of the great Master. Alberto Miguel Montanes writes the introduction; Oliver Picasso, the artist's grandson, the foreword.
