the release of Luxury of Space by Oberto Gili,
a visually stunning portraiture of a slice of life captured within the
comforts of our living environment. Home is simply space: a fish tank,
a castle, a hangar, a plastic roof, a square car, an apartment, a bar,
a hotel room, a studio, a garden can all be your nest if they give you
shelter and emotions. Fleeting human moments memorialized by Oberto Gili’s
camera translate formally into beautifully balanced classical images.
His camera, like his personality, is whimsical, questioning, nonjudgemental
and tenderly objective. Gili’s images of interiors capture fundamental
moments of human existence, quiet moments and basic needs, whether it’s
a man sitting on his couch surrounded by dogs, a young couple getting
into bed, a woman watching herself getting dressed in the mirror or a
girls swimming alone in a pool, we experience narrative, isolation, intrusion
through Gili’s lens. Gili shows us different perspective of home:
color, happiness, sex, depression, arrogance, creativity, simplicity,
boredom. The images in this stunning volume are a diary of the interiors
and situations that have, over the last thirty years, struck Gili’s

in shooting interiors and fashion. He works regularly for such publications
as House & Garden, Town & Country, Travel & Leisure
and British, Spanish and American Vogue. Gili divides
his time between Rome and New York.
