ASSOULINE
IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE THE LEATHER BOOK
USA- Assouline Publishing,
the illustrated book publishing house behind such cutting edge fashion and pop culture titles such as The T-Shirt Book, Girls, People, The Art Game Book and Fashion Dogs will release The Leather Book by Anne-Laure Quilleriet. This anthology of leather, the first ever published, chronicles the history and transformations of this fabric through 400 illustrated pages. In this informative, entertaining homage, one can relive the grand classics and extreme permutations of this “second skin.” An amazing journey from prehistoric caves to the houses of haute couture, Leather recounts the history of man's most versatile fabric, featuring such iconic pieces as the black leather jacket, aviator gear, and Inuits' parkas, as well as staples of the contemporary wardrobe. Images associated with leather range from the foul-smelling pelts that protected prehistoric cave dwellers from the elements to leather garments chiseled as finely as precious gems by such designers as Jean-Paul Gaultier and John Galliano. As a living material that is sculpted into unique relief by the body's own habits, leather has metamorphosed into countless styles throughout the 20th century, from the tough virility of the biker fraternity to fetishistic corsettes that symbolize unabashed luxury or a return to the rustic.
