ASSOULINE
IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE INDIAN BEAUTY
USA- Assouline Publishing,
the illustrated book publishing house behind such elegant and exotic titles
as Rajasthan, Maharajas' Jewels, Ethnic Style and
Asian Art will release Indian Beauty: In the Spirit
of Bollywood by Bèrènice Geoffroy-Schneiter.
Ecstatic sole eyes, fertile hips, velvety breasts, and the sentimental,
throbbing music that inspires languorous dancingóthe films born in the
studio of Bombay has giving rise to an aesthetic that can be summed up
in three syllables that are at once sweat and percussive: Bollywood. A
knowing dose of eroticism and kitsch that is not content with just invading
cinema screens of the Indian diaspora, Bollywood has influenced fashion
and has entered all aspects of Western culture. Serial Rights

Rising above everyday grime is the splendid face of the latest Bollywood superstar, Aishwarya Rai, a former Miss World. Directed by Sanjay Bhansali, the latest film version of Devdas cost nearly twelve million dollars—an extravagance that matches the aspirations of worshipers of the god “Cinema.” |
